Baja California is a Mexican state on the Baja California Peninsula, bordering the U.S. state of California.

The landscape spans mountains and beaches on the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of California.

Towns near the U.S. border include Tijuana, famous as a nightlife and shopping destination, as well as the town of Rosarito, with its wide, sandy Pacific beaches.

Also near the border are the fishing village of Puerto Nuevo, where the culinary specialty is lobster, and Tecate, known for the large Tecate brewery and a fitness spa, Rancho La Puerta.

Farther south, bayside Ensenada features local-history museums; El Mirador, an outdoor observation deck offering panoramic views; and well-regarded surf spots like San Miguel and offshore Isla Todos Santos.

Northeast of Ensenada is the Guadalupe Valley, Mexico’s wine country. Here, the Ruta del Vino (wine route) leads visitors to numerous boutique vintners.

Inland, Sierra de San Pedro Mártir National Park is home to bighorn sheep and condors.Read less
